Early Childhood Program

The Early Childhood Program (ECP) at Episcopal Day School offers full or half-day classes for children ages 3 and 4.  As a general rule, children should have reached the age of 3 or 4 and be potty trained. However, we recognize that some children may be ready for a program like ours early, and we are always happy to assess a child to determine his or her developmental readiness to attend EDS. We want the launch of each child’s school career to be a wonderful experience, and will work with you and your child to ensure they are placed appropriately.

ECP offerings for the 2019-2020 school year:

  • Class sizes will be 10-12
  • 1 teaching assistant per class
  • Half day dismissal is at 12 PM, full day dismisses at 3 PM

EDS uses The Creative Curriculum for Preschool – an award-winning curriculum for preschool success. For more information about the curriculum and the benefits of mixed-age classrooms, please click here visit our ECP Curriculum page.

A nutritional snack is offered daily. The school offers hot lunch, which may be ordered online, or a lunch may be brought from home.   In addition to classroom activities and ample time for recess, children attend classes in music, art, computer, PE, and Spanish.  Chapel services are held two times per week from 8:15 until 8:35.  Parents are welcome to attend these services.  Opportunities for parental involvement are available through an active Parent Teacher Association.

Our early childhood teachers are members of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  The early childhood program is licensed by the state of North Carolina as a childcare provider.
