About EDS

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a strong foundation for life long learning by engaging the mind, body and spirit in a nurturing Christian community.

Message from The Head of School

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Episcopal Day School, located in Southern Pines, North Carolina. For over five decades, we have been providing a superior educational experience to the children of the Sandhills.

When we opened our doors in 1959, we began a tradition of academic excellence that continues today. We believe the primary purpose of our school is to provide quality education in a Christian environment. We emphasize spiritual and moral values, as well as enriched academic and intellectual studies. While it is important to us that our students are highly skilled, the development of their traits of character is equally significant.

Our low teacher to student ratio of approximately 1 to 10 allows for personal attention to the needs of each child.

Our remarkable teachers are the heart and soul of our school. The faculty at Episcopal Day School is committed to excellence in education and recognizes the need to inspire, challenge, and nurture the development of all students. Ultimately, EDS’ fifth grade students become the leaders of their future middle schools and high schools.

Our campus covers over four acres and includes eighteen classrooms, a library/computer lab, music room, art room, common room, playgrounds, a soccer field, and the historic Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Our parents are an essential aspect of the success of our school. Not only do they visit and volunteer, they also support their children’s best efforts with genuine interest and active participation in school activities. The PTA at EDS is an active and essential organization on campus, and it is open to all parents.

Our school is a place to build friendships and share in celebrations. Events such as Awesome Autumn, International Day, May Day, musical performances, art exhibits and an overnight field trip for fifth graders, are some of the extra-curricular activities happening at Episcopal Day School.

I invite you to visit our beautiful campus, tour our classrooms and be introduced to our faculty members. The gift of an EDS education is a gift of a lifetime.

Most sincerely,

Tom Brereton
Head of School
