Spanish, the language and its culture, is becoming more important in our immediate world and beyond. There are large populations of Hispanic people in many areas of the United States and they are becoming permanent residents and citizens. They are opening their own businesses, publishing their own newspaper and are having a dramatic effect on our economy, the political landscape and American culture. The Hispanic people are maintaining their identity, customs and language. In order to communicate with and understand the peoples of the Hispanic community it is necessary to learn Spanish. The acquisition of another language is best achieved when students begin at a fairly young age and use the language frequently. Our Spanish program focuses on communication in an environment that does not separate the language from the culture. The classroom is designed to surround the students with everyday activities and vocabulary. The Hispanic world is brought into the student's world by way of historical celebrations, stories, games, holidays, map study skills, music and art. Our mission is to teach Spanish, the language and the culture, in an enjoyable and positive manner, focusing on communication and and appreciation of the similiarities and differences between our two cultures.
