After School Program

Episcopal Day School offers an excellent After School program from 2:40 pm to 6:00 pm daily.  After School students are signed into the After School program by their teacher.  A daily snack is provided, as well as a variety of activities.  Time is also allotted for homework and outside play.

You may sign your child up on a monthly basis choosing the days you require at $12.00 per day or on the occasional need as a Drop In student at the rate of $15.00 per day.  Monthly reservation forms may be obtained from the front office or at the After School desk in the cafeteria after 2:00pm.

Counseling/Guidance Program

This program is a developmental program which reaches all students through weekly classroom visits by the school counselor. Topics such as cooperation, study skills, individual differences, problem solving and conflict resolution are discussed through a variety of methods. In addition to classroom visits, the counselor is available as a resource for teachers, parents, individual students and small groups of students. The counselor also assists the resource teacher with the testing program and coordinates other programs as needed.

Outdoor Educational Opportunities

Teachers are encouraged to reach out into the community to enrich curriculum. Guests are commonly invited into the classrooms, thus enabling the children to experience new depth in many subject areas. Field trips in curriculum areas as well as cultural experiences are also encouraged. Classes take an average of four field trips each year. A special overnight camping trip is taken by the fifth grade each fall. All fifth graders attend a three day camp located on the coastal regions of North Carolina called Sound to Sea. Here they study barrier island ecology, coastal region habitats and participate in a group challenge course.

Resource Program

The resource program offers academic services to students who have been referred by the classroom teacher as being in need of additional academic support. Students are accorded services for remediation and curricular enhancement, individually or in small groups. The resource teacher also functions as a consultant to the classroom teacher. Additionally, the resource teacher is responsible for the implementation of individual and group testing and for interpreting the results for both parents and staff.

Student Council

Students are selected by their peers at each grade level (K-5) to represent their class. This council is supervised by two staff members and serves to enrich Episcopal Day School through a number of community programs. Some of the programs supported by the council include: Moore County Food Bank, the Sandhills Coalition for Human Care, Operation Christmas Child, Moore County Animal Shelter.

Accelerated Reader Program

Reading is one of the great joys of life, and crucial to everything we so as active members of society.  The challenge to every educator is to ensure that all students achieve maximum reading growth.  The Accelerated Reader program is based on the fundamental principle that practice improves reading.  The program involves three simple steps: (1) a student selects and reads a book; (2) the student takes the AR quiz; and (3) the computer adds the quiz results to its database and generates a report for the student and teacher.  A quarterly report is sent home for parents.  This program is used by students in 1st – 5th grades.  The books are located in a special section in the library.  See your teacher for information.  Click here to view a complete list of our Accelerated Reader books and quizzes.
