School Programs

After School Program
The Episcopal Day School offers an excellent after school program in a safe and caring environment.  Approximately forty children, ages three through eleven, attend the daily program from 2:40 pm until 6:00 pm.  A daily snack is provided.  Children need not be enrolled at EDS to attend.  If enough interest is shown, an all day child care program is offered on teacher workdays and some vacation days.  The program operates during the summer months from 8:00am until 6:00pm daily.

The daily After School rate is $10.00 per day and $18.00 per day on early dismissal days.  The charge for each minute after the 6pm closing time will be $1.00 per minute per child.

After School Registration forms must be submitted to the After School Director prior to enrollment.  Payments for After Care are due PRIOR to attendance.  No refunds or credits will be given as staff is hired according tot he number of children scheduled to attend.

Our experienced staff has completed Basic School Age Child Care Training and continues to attend various child care seminars and classes on a regular basis.

Children enjoy varied activities including free play, snack, story time, games, outdoor playtime, arts and crafts, computer time and an occasional late afternoon video. There is also a time and place set aside for children to complete homework. A helper works with these students to offer any needed assistance and encouragement.

Please feel free to call the After School Office at 692-9538 with any questions.  We are looking forward to another fantastic year at EDS After School.

Counseling/Guidance Program
This program is a developmental program which reaches all students through weekly classroom visits by the school counselor. Topics such as cooperation, study skills, individual differences, problem solving and conflict resolution are discussed through a variety of methods. In addition to classroom visits, the counselor is available as a resource for teachers, parents, individual students and small groups of students.
The counselor also assists the resource teacher with the testing program and coordinates other programs as needed.

Outdoor Educational Opportunities
Teachers are encouraged to reach out into the community to enrich curriculum. Guests are commonly invited into the classrooms, thus enabling the children to experience new depth in many subject areas. Field trips in curriculum areas as well as cultural experiences are also encouraged. Classes take an average of four field trips each year. A special overnight camping trip is taken by the fifth grade each September. All fifth graders attend a three day camp located on the coastal regions of North Carolina called Sound to Sea. Here they study barrier island ecology, coastal region habitats and participate in a group challenge course.

Resource Program
The resource teacher is responsible for working with exceptional students. Students are accorded services for remediation and curricular enhancement, individually or in small groups. The resource teacher also functions as a consultant to the classroom teacher. Additionally, the resource teacher is responsible for the implementation of individual and group testing and for interpreting the results for both parents and staff.

Student Council
Students are selected by their peers at each grade level (K-5) to represent their class. This council is supervised by two staff members and serves to enrich Episcopal Day School through a number of community programs. Some of the programs supported by the council include: Moore County Food Bank, the Sandhills Coalition for Human Care, a recycling program and the promotion of school spirit by the sale of school T-shirts.  The following is a letter received from the Service Coordinator at Providence Place in Aberdeen, NC.  The student council delivered them some special Valentines Treats in February.

Dear Students,                                                                              I would like to thank you so much for visiting with the residents here at Providence Place.  They really enjoyed having you here.  They were very excited about their Valentine's gifts and continue to talk about your visit.  I can't even begin to express the delight that you brought into their lives.  Again, thank you, and we look forward to future visits.                                       Sincerely,                                                                                                     Stephanie Coble-Adcock                                                        Service Coordinator

Accelerated Reader Program                                  Reading is one of the great joys of life, and crucial to everything we so as active members of society.  The challenge to every educator is to ensure that all students achieve maximum reading growth.  The Accelerated Reader program is based on the fundamental principle that practice improves reading.  The program involves three simple steps: (1) a student selects and reads a book; (2) the student takes the AR quiz; and (3) the computer adds the quiz results to its database and generates a report for the student and teacher.  A quarterly report is sent home for parents.  This program is used by students in 1st - 5th grades.  The books are located in a special section in the library.  See your teacher for information.  Click here to view a complete list of our Accelerated Reader books and quizzes.

World Book Online Reference Center                              Episcopal Day School subscribes to the award winning World Book Online Reference Center.  This online center contains all 22 volumes of the print set plus an atlas, dictionary and special section on North Carolina.  Click here to access this website.  Don't forget your special ID and password!
